Preflight checklist

A handy checklist to prepare for photography

Location and subject

• Plan how to get to there
• Look up the location and possible interesting subjects or backgrounds
• Look up important people that need to be photographed
• Think of type of photo's to capture
• Look up dress code and dress accordingly

Camera

• Select camera and backup camera if needed
• Rotate and charge batteries including spares
• Clear card if possible
• Synchronize clocks to smartphone
• Check all modes for preferred settings
  • ISO, shutter speed, aperture
  • Focus modes
  • Autofocus modes
  • File format (Compact RAW)
  • Continuous shooting
  • Automatic lighting optimizer
  • Video and audio settings

Lenses

• Select lenses to use
• Clean if needed
• Select filters and required stepper rings

Flash

• Select flashes
• Select modifiers
• Select filters and prepare typical filter to use (CTO)
• Charge batteries including spares
• Set to preferred settings
  • Setup flash pairing in advance
  • Set to ETTL with default exposure compensation

Computer

• Ensure disk space of 30GB for CRAW images
• Prepare default settings in photo software

Other

• Select bag
• Select reflectors
  • Configure multi-use reflectors for expected use (scrim, white reflector, silver reflector)
